My oh my. There is so much I can say about one of the greatest saints of all time - but then we’d be here forever. Given it is the year of St Joseph, we thought it was for such a time as this that we released a collection inspired by him. For I believe his time is now!
St Joseph was no ordinary man - he was chosen by God to be the earthly father of Jesus Christ the Son of God While He was on earth. What an honourable man St Joseph was. A man who shows us what it means to humble, about what it means to be obedient and what it means to truly trust God. After our Mother Mary, St Joseph is the greatest saint and closest to Jesus. In his humility and obedience St Joseph shows us how God can truly use us for His greater mission.
God often spoke to St Joseph in his dreams. Though we never hear any of St Joseph’s words, all we know of him are his actions and what he did. St Joseph was told in a dream to not be afraid and to trust God. He obeyed God as soon as he woke up and trusted God completely. He loved and served his family with all that he had. St Joseph didn’t have much, but he was able to do great things and play such a significant role in Salvation History. God worked through St Joseph's weaknesses and made him capable of leading his family and becoming the spouse of Mary and the foster father of Jesus Christ.
“Joseph, then, teaches us that faith in God includes believing that he can work even through our fears, our frailties and our weaknesses. He also teaches us that amid the tempests of life, we must never be afraid to let the Lord steer our course. At times, we want to be in complete control, yet God always sees the bigger picture.” Pope Francis
St Joseph may not be God our Father, but he is another father to us all, a protector, a guardian. He is a true example of what it means to be man and I truly believe the world desperately needs to know St Joseph. St Joseph was a real person. A real human being. One who, like our Mother Mary, shows us what it means to completely trust and live life in obedience with God and in cooperation with His plans. If more came to know St Joseph and follow his example, the world would be filled with much holier and virtuous people.
I don’t think the year of St Joseph was declared this year by coincidence. No, I believe St Joseph’s time is now. I believe his time has come for such a time as this. He shows us how we should live our lives fixed on Jesus Christ, and for the glory of God.
